SLICE HOUSE

THE SLICE HOUSE
Seattle, Washington
2,800 sq/ft

DESCRIPTION
The design consists of new construction on an existing 1938 foundation and keeping the floor framing intact. The goal is to bring modern progressive living standards into older urban residential neighborhoods using cost-effective and economical construction budget. The planning and design responds to the sites relationship with an active interurban commuting trail known as the Burke Gilman and picturesque gardens created by the previous owners of the old home. The architecture consists of a carved block split in half by a gestural movement of glass that captures views of the Burke Gilman Trail, Lake Washington, and Childrens' Hospital, and University of Washington to the south. The floor plans offer outdoor spaces on ever level to allow the gardens on the ground floor to continue up on other levels and to provide exterior functionality that captures landscape into the house interiors. The use of metal siding allows for low maintenance while keeping with a progressive look and quality that plays of the subtleties of the tongue and groove cedar siding that composes the main body of the home. The home consists of an open entertaining level on the ground, master suite and two bedrooms on the second floor, and a lounge and studio/office on the third floor all linked by a central circulation core in the center.
